Jessica & Michael
A wedding in Kasane, Botswana!
I grew up in Botswana before my family and I moved to Cape Town. So the country and its people have always had a special place in my heart. I also grew up with Jess (the bride) but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that Roy and I would be their photographers.
Jess is a force to be reckoned with. A breeze of a bride. Fun, stunning, easy-going, and including. Roy and I felt more like guests than photographers. Michael is a soft-spoken person, someone you just met but feel like you have known forever.
Roy and I flew in from Cape Town. We had just returned from a few New York shoots and were so super excited to be surrounded by the magic of the bush. As soon as we arrived at Kasane international airport we knew we were back home in Africa. Mowana lodge (where the whole bridal party and guests stayed) defied every expectation we had. After taking a quick shower all the wedding guests were escorted to a boat safari and an incredible dinner. Emotions of love and laughter filled our Friday in Botswana.
The next morning the groom and his friends started their day by playing a game of golf. Jess was walking around until she subsided to her bridal suite where she began the preparations for her day. During our walkthrough of the venue, we were met by so so many people helping to prepare and get everything ready for the ceremony. Just below where the ceremony was held a little boy and his father was fishing and you could hear giggling from friends coming from the swimming pool.
In front of a massive, incredible, and charming Boabab tree Jess and Michael tied the knot. The tree resembles their love strong and steadfast. I caught various smiles between Michael and Jess who were taking in every moment together.
After the ceremony, Jess, Michael, and their guests started to party. From the get-go, Jess reminded us that she wanted to spend time with her guests and that the photos were not the priority, as spending time with her loved ones from near and far was so much more important and WE LOVE THAT! As the sun started to set on this wonderful day we enjoyed views of the stunning Chobe River, a lesson in Kayleigh dancing, and divine food.
A wedding to remember forever.
